IT IS RACEDAY! After 8 monhts of training and getting prepared for this massive challenge, it is the morning before. The last week was one to charge up - Sleep, eat and relax. Sunday Roman my supporter cam for a brunch with his Family, time to discuss what to do when and how to do it. Got that box checked! Monday and Tuesday I was on a Business trip to Bucharest, a meeting which turned out very promising and Meeting up with some "old" Partners was great. Had a nice diner and it was funny how...

9 days to go and finally finished my 33 weeks of training. First of all I want to thank my wife Nicole and my lovely daughters for allowing me to invest so much time in this crazy project. If it wasn’t for their support, I wouldn’t be able to even think about participating in the event. The last couple of weeks were tough, the hours added up to over 15 hours a week and also at work times were busy. Luckily I managed to put in the hours I initially planned, although I have to admit that...

I am writing this on a rainy, cold day at the end of Mai, and I would never thought saying; it’s snowing again in the mountains……. It simply isn’t the type of weather to go out an become active, but I have this goal, so I need to go. Last week was an extremely busy week, that’s also why I am also bit late with this blog. Scheduled were 15 hours of training, but being on a fair in Amsterdam for 3 days, I would be happy to put in at least 10 hours. After the heavy last week and the half...

And then there are only 6 more weeks to go……. This was a week which was planned and turned out to be a heavy one, as beside the 15 Hours, I also had a half Marathon at the end of the week. Normally you would take it easy in the week before, but I took it like a good training. As it is better to be active at the beginning of the week, I started with an hour Fitness in the morning at 6 O'clock, showered went to work and then had my first hard session of the week at lunchtime. I did some 1K...

Only 45 days to go until the start of the swim-run. Time is ticking and I’ve still scheduled 4 tough weeks and one easy week and then 2 weeks of tapering just before the Gigathlon. I’ve looked at the weeks to go and made a more detailed trainings calendar, in order to see if I can at least work-out the hours I did last year. I scheduled some afternoons off from work, just to put in the hours needed and not this is planned, it is time to get busy. Well, the opposite of busy was last week, as...

Time is moving towards D-Day, I actually should be counting the weeks to go, which are only 8….. This week was the last block of this period, so at least 15 hours were to be invested which I managed easily. The plan was easy and simple: take it easy at the beginning of the week and then head-off to Kos for 2.5 trainings days under the sun. The week started off by an hour on the Zwift, yes, indoors as the weather still plays crazy and its definitely too cold for the time of year. Tuesday had a...

This week turned out to be a nice one: first of all time with the family and inbetween time to exercise a bit more than ususal. Monday, still being Easter monday, we packed and were ready to spend one night in Engelberg in a nice family hotel. We drove off in the morning, Nicole, the kids and Heidi dropped me off in Oberdorf. Oberdorf is the beginning of the valley leading into Engelberg. It is also a part of the running part of the Gigathlon day 1, so a test to see how the run would be. The...

After, let's say a not so perfect week last week, it was time to turn the switch and focus again. The weather finally is getting better which also helps to get more motivation for the next heavy block. The week started of with a lunchrun followed by a late afternoon swim, made it just in time to pick-up the girls. My Goal this week was to squeeze in at least 11 hours in between work and family, ideally most of those hours under the working week. Tuesday had a tough workout in the gym where I...

Last week I already told you about the idea to take it easy for a week. Travelling, loads to do at work and on top of that I was feeling a cold coming up so it was definitely better to not stand on the throttle. Monday evening was the only small gap I could find to go for a run. Being dark it was actually quite nice as somehow, you’re much more aware of other things. Noises, lights and the feel of running without seeing too far ahead is nice for a change. The next day, travelling for a...

Another week has passed since my last update. It’s springtime, the weather however is still not stable enough and temperatures are still a bit low to spend a lot of time outside. That’s why I started off the week by an hour in the corporate fitness to work on my core stability and stretching my muscles. I know I will never become very flexible, but doing these exercises twice a week should at help a bit, well, at least it easies my conscience. This week was split by a couple of business...
